Buying across the Maryland–Pennsylvania line

Twenty minutes north, the same money buys a different house, and a different set of rules.

What changes at the line

Transfer taxes, settlement customs, inspection norms and property tax structures all differ. So does the paperwork.

The commute maths

Cheaper house, longer drive is a trade that looks good on a spreadsheet and feels different in February. Drive it at rush hour before you commit.

Two-state households

Plenty of families here work on opposite sides of the border. Middle-ground towns like Littlestown, Hanover and Manchester exist for exactly that reason.

Still got a question about this? Send it over.
